Carnegie Mellon (CMU) is another excellent choice for early decision applicants.
I recommend it highly for students interested in engineering, computer science and the physical sciences as CMU is one of the few places where one can get research opportunities as an undergraduate.
CMU also uses the common app and the supplementary essay is rather basic- it asks you to mention a book you read and its impact.
There is also a optional essay for students who opt for an alumni interview. This is recommended because it allows you to demonstrate interest in the school. Alumni interviews tend to be informal and more about personality and interests than academic ability.
Your questions are as important as answers.
CMU ED is especially recommended for students applying to the Computer Science program.
SCS admissions rates are below 10% and even under ED below 15%.
CMU is arguably the best CS program in the USA. What is unique is that the school of computer Science is(SCS) a separate college in the university rather than a department in the engineering college.
Within the SCS there are departments such as Robotics, Machine Learning, HCI, Language /technologies
