Waiting for Decisions to arrive

The days between mid February and April are  tense and filled with suspense for college applicants..University  applicants have all been  submitted and universities are starting to  send out decision letters.
This is a time to focus  on managing expectations  and preparing for the thrills and disappointments   that are bound to come your way.

Here are a few things to keep in mind about  the admissions process:

  • It is NOT FAIR- no one said it was. Colleges do not select the best or most intelligent students. Think of it as  selecting a team. Each  university wants a scientist, writer, philosopher, entrepreneur, intellectual and even class clown.  Keep in mind that applicants more  deserving than you will be denied and those less deserving may be accepted.
  •  Focus  your attention on colleges that accept you and  want you not the ones  you thought you loved - if a college does not want you - think of it as their loss not yours.  You will be spending the next 4 years of life at university- this is going to be your home- you must feel that you belong.  The phrase "alma mater" translates to  "soul mother"   and this is because universities play an important role in shaping individuals.
