This is a time to focus on managing expectations and preparing for the thrills and disappointments that are bound to come your way.
Here are a few things to keep in mind about the admissions process:
- It is NOT FAIR- no one said it was. Colleges do not select the best or most intelligent students. Think of it as selecting a team. Each university wants a scientist, writer, philosopher, entrepreneur, intellectual and even class clown. Keep in mind that applicants more deserving than you will be denied and those less deserving may be accepted.
- Focus your attention on colleges that accept you and want you not the ones you thought you loved - if a college does not want you - think of it as their loss not yours. You will be spending the next 4 years of life at university- this is going to be your home- you must feel that you belong. The phrase "alma mater" translates to "soul mother" and this is because universities play an important role in shaping individuals.
